Grandfather clocks are old just as the name. These are basically the clocks that developed from the first wall clocks; however scientist improved a way for the time making it more precise by broadening the pendulum. As the time went by the pendulums on the clocks has also grown longer and longer along with the designs being remodelled.

Generally, most of the antique grandfather clocks fall into two groups, 8 day and 30 hour, even though occasionally you may come across the exception that has a movement of 1 month, 3 month, 6 month or even a 12 month. Usually, this is because of the involvement of additional gearing. A clock that wind anti-clockwise will go for a month if not more - while an 8 day clock will wind clockwise.
